I’m always looking for ways to save money and make life easier, and one of my favorite ways to do that is with homemade mixes. One that I use a lot is my homemade fajita seasoning!

For years, I collected those nifty little spice packets from the grocery store, thinking they were both convenient and a great savings. In the long run though, they really weren’t either! No matter what I did, the mixes ended up scattered all over my cupboard or pantry. When I couldn’t find them, I bought more.
Each time we moved, you can imagine how many random spice packets I found!
Eventually, I tried making my own spice mixes. After all, they couldn’t be that hard, could they? (Hint…they’re not!) I keep them in small Mason jars with cute labels (I’m kind of a sucker for those) and have them handy whenever I need them.

This allows me to do a few things. First, I know exactly where everything is, because it’s a lot harder to randomly lose a Mason jar. Second, I can mix up just what I need, so I always have fresh mixes on hand. And, well, fresh is better.
Third, I can control what goes into my mixes. My son and I are both celiac, and he has food intolerances that tend to pop up randomly. By making my own mixes, I know for a fact that what I make is safe for us. (Besides, have you taken a look at the preservatives that go into some of those mixes? No thanks!)
Homemade Fajita Seasoning
This is a mix we use all the time, so I thought it would be a good one to share! I also have some recipes coming up that use it, so keep an eye out!
Homemade fajita seasoning is really easy to make, but it’s also really versatile. It has a great blend of mild heat and depth, and you can use it in so many ways.
Each month, I take a look at my menu plan and figure out how much seasoning I’m likely to need. Then, I just take a few minutes to mix it up!
If you’ll need more than this recipe makes, feel free to double or triple the recipe. You can easily prepare the fajita seasoning in larger batches and store in an airtight container for later use.
